ANOTHER BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS ATTACK - SEVERAL KILLED IN MAIDUGURI CITY

Maiduguri city has experienced another tension on Thursday, 16 February when suspected Boko Haram terrorists detonated three powerful bombs while in attempt to attack an IDP camp. Report states that the terrorists tried to invade the newly constructed Customs House where IDPS from MAFA LGA are being camped.   But they were confronted on a severe gun battle that lasted for about an hour.   Few civilians were killed which no accurate figure was given and including the Boko Haram terrorists also lost their lives. It was a fiercely gun battle between the terrorists and the soldiers but our gallant soldiers defeated them according to ZANA YAKUB LAWAN this was a surprised attack he lamented. Heavy explosion at nuclear power plant near British coast leaves several injured

power plant near British coast leaves several injured MULTIPLE people have been injured after a huge blast ripped through a nuclear power plant. The incident happened this morning at the Flamanville Nuclear facility in north-west France. Local reports are stating the explosion happened in the engine room and a number of people have been left feeling unwell. Firefighters and paramedics rushed to the scene but the extent of the damage and injuries remains unclear. The plant – owned by French energy giants Électricité de France (EDF) – is incredibly close to the British coast and the Isle of Wight is just over a hundred miles away. Recounting of Governorship Election ballot papers begins

The recounting of ballot papers used in four local government areas in the September 28 Governorship Election in Edo State has begun at Edo Tribunal. It is being done in the open court as ordered by the tribunal. Representatives of the petitioners and the respondents are monitoring the recounting. The People’s Democratic Party and its candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu are expecting to prove their allegations of over voting during the election. Meanwhile, the Tribunal has rejected an application of the petitioners seeking for extension of time to present its witnesses. The petitioners were expected to close their case by 1pm on Friday but pleaded for extension of time to enable it call more witnesses and conclude the recounting of ballot papers. As at press time, the petitioners have only called 90 witnesses against 400 witnesses lined up to testify. Abuja int'l Airport under Repair: Airlines Rejects Flights to Kaduna

Major Airlines has refused flying to Kaduna International Airport during the period of repair of the runway at Abuja's Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport. Few airlines has earlier suspended Abuja flights until the airport reopens. The decision to suspend Abuja flights temporarily was in the interest of its customers. The airlines are concern about the safety and security of their passenger's,  and are presently evaluating all mediums to reach out directly to customers planning to travel within that period. The Minister of State for Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika was commended for the planned repair and also to consider other key areas in the airport, that there are no catering services as well as the adequate technology like the Common User Terminal Equipment, among others in Abuja. Factory worker loses hand requesting N50 million compensation

• Victim demands N50m compensation Anthony Effiong a 23 year old who accidentally lost his right hand from the wrist, by a molder at a plastic  company manufacturing.  Anthony said this was caused by his indian head of operations in the factory who had increased the spead of the machine without letting him know. The victim who hail from Akwa Ibom is now demanding a compensation of N50 million from the manufacturing company for his disability. Although the management earlier promised to render medical support to buy him an artificial hand and compensate him in full but has since then not kept to their promise. He told The Guardian that his N850 daily pay was barely enough to Carter for his transport fare. However, he had no other option but to engage him self with the job of a machine operator since there is no job in the Nigerian labour market.

Nigerian Stock Exchange loses N74 bn in one day

Lagos – Activities on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) opened for the week on Monday on a downward trend with  market capitalisation losing N74 billion, amid profit taking embarked upon by investors. The market capitalisation which opened at N8.892 trillion lost N74 billion or 0.83 per cent to close at N8.818 trillion. Similarly, the All-Share Index shed 215.45 points or 0.83 per cent to close at 25,587.09 against 25,802.54 achieved on Friday. Total recorded the highest loss to lead the losers’ chart, dropping by N6 to close at N262 per share. Dangote Cement trailed with a loss of N2.99 to close at N165.01 and GlaxoSmithKline dipped 75k to close at N14.25 per share. PZ industries was down by 67k to close at N12.87, Guinness declined by 28k to close at N66.70 per share. Conversely, Nigerian Breweries led the gainers’ table, gaining 39k to close at N133.50 per share. Hamas said it holds Israel responsible for the current military escalation in Gaza [Mohammed Salem/Reuters] The Israeli army has attacked a number of Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip, wounding at least three people, according to Palestinian health officials. Israel's military said the strikes were in response to a rocket that was launched from the Palestinian territory into Israel earlier on Monday, causing no injuries. Two Hams posts were targeted by Israeli tank fire, a Palestinian security source told the AFP news agency, while air strikes hit targets in northern Gaza. Later on Monday, at least five air strikes hit Gaza City, while one struck Khan Yunis in the south. Ashraf al-Qedra, spokesman for the Gaza health ministry, told reporters that at least three civilians were lightly to moderately injured in the air strikes. Trump ramps up criticism of judge after travel ban setback

US President Donald Trump has attacked the judge who blocked his travel ban, saying Americans should blame the courts "if something happens". Mr Trump also said he had instructed border officials to check people entering America "very carefully". The federal appeals court on Saturday rejected the Trump administration's request to reinstate the ban. The ban, affecting people from seven mainly-Muslim countries, was blocked by Seattle's federal judge on Friday. This means that Mr Trump's directive will remain suspended and visa holders from Iraq, Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen will be allowed to enter the US until the full case has been heard.

Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed has refuted claims in the media, quoting him as saying President Buhari’s return to Nigeria may be hampered by a faulty aircraft. In a statement issued by his special assistant on media, Segun Adeyemi on Sunday the minister denied speaking to anyone on issues of the President’s return hence describing the report as a “another from the stable of the purveyors of fake news and should be disregarded”. “Our attention has been drawn to a report quoting the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, as saying the President's return to Nigeria may be hampered by a faulty aircraft” the statement read. “The Minister has not spoken to anyone on the issue of the President's return” it added.

A statement by President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, said the president had since communicated his plan for the extension of the vacation to NASS on Feb. 5. “The President had planned to return to Abuja this evening, but was advised to complete the test cycle before returning. The notice has since been dispatched to the Senate President, and Speaker, House of Representatives. “Mr. President expresses his sincere gratitude to Nigerians for their concern, prayers and kind wishes,” the statement said.(NAN)

AU bars EU from negotiating with individual African country

The African Union (AU) has resolved that European Union (EU) will henceforth no longer negotiate with any individual African country but with the union as a body. The Nigerian Foreign Affairs Minister, Geoffrey Onyeama, stated this in Abuja while addressing newsmen on the outcome of the 28th AU Summit of Head of States and Government. "AU is saying henceforth if EU was going to negotiate, it should only negotiate with the union. "But if any of the EU member countries wants to negotiate with any African country individually that is acceptable, but not EU as a block to negotiate with any African country,” he said. The minister said the summit resolved that it would not be willing to accept representation of the head of states at summit. The summit, according to Onyeama, stressed that it is mandatory for the president or his vice to attend the meeting. The group announced its plan to march across the country in solidarity with President Muhammadu Buhari, on the same date as the Tuface-led events.
